Moments Stuck In Time

Today marks the start of many weeks of music and stories to come. To start that journey, I want to introduce you to an amazing 21-year-old Asian American singer/songwriter from Rowland Heights, CA I started working with this summer. Benzer uses his vocal arrangements and sounds of smooth R&B, funk, soul, and 90's hip-hop to tell his best life stories in the form of music.
Have you ever experienced moments you can't help but think will stay in that frame of time forever? You know, when you find that person to make your world go round, or encounter a joy creeping up under your skin you've never felt before?
In his most recent single, "On Read," Benzer reencounters those feelings of heartbreak and transforms them into a distinct blend of soft-vocals, a psychedelic jazz guitar solo, and synthesized rhythmic elements of hip-hop and soul to try and find answers. The single speaks on the complexity of romantic relationships with society's reliance on social media to communicate. OOF
"The inspiration is based on the confusion that comes from being left on read and without closure," Benzer says. "After giving it all we have, we tend to have trouble understanding our emotions."
Wow! That hit home Benzer. There's many of us that have trouble moving on without closure, and can I just say, this song definitely made me think it all over again and really took me back. I felt like I was there with him trying to figure out those feelings of uncertainty once again.
Isn't it amazing how music can do that? I hope you were able to share those emotions and go back in time with Benzer, like I did, and enjoyed the first story of heartbreak in the exquisite language of R&B. Keep an eye out for his upcoming EP "DEUCE"!
Hi Itzel, this is an interesting post! I agree with how music is an amazing form of capturing memories and emotions. The song you shared by Benzer depicted an experience of going through relationship troubles just by his lyrics. His smooth voice and instrumentals complement each other. Listening to it reminded me of Erykah Badu's music. Thank you for sharing, I really enjoyed the song!
